How we decide what to recommend

There is no clever algorithm here and we would rather say so. Each template is tagged with what it is for — which species, which stage of a pet's life, which problem it solves, how much of a system it is — and your answers are scored against those tags. The recommendation is whichever template matches most of what you told us, and you can see the reasons it was picked.

Two things follow from that. The first is that a cheaper, narrower template will often beat a binder: if you said you want one sheet, we will not push a thirty-dollar system at you. The second is that when nothing fits, we say so rather than selling you the least-bad option.
