The Pet Encyclopedia

A reference library of pet breeds — dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, small pets, reptiles and fish.

Every entry covers the same ground in the same order: where the breed comes from, how big it gets, how long it lives, what it eats, how much grooming and exercise it needs, what it typically costs to keep, and the health conditions it is prone to — plus thirteen traits rated 1–5 so you can compare breeds side by side instead of reading ten different articles.

Pick a species to see every breed we cover, with filters for size, temperament and how well each one fits your home. Each species page also has ready-made shortlists — apartment-friendly breeds, breeds good with children, low-shedding breeds and more.

Every entry is written to the same structure and rated on the same 1–5 scale, so a score means the same thing whichever breed you are reading about. Health information is descriptive only — it is there to tell you what to discuss with a vet, never to replace one.
